Land of Giants: How To Make Power Transmission Poles Less Boring

The architectural firm Choi + Shine has submitted a very novel idea to a competition to design the power transmission pylons in Iceland. Their solution to dealing with the boring gray unsightly mess that are ordinary high-voltage electrical pylons is to give them a human shape – on a gigantic scale, naturally. They envision these giants “walking” the countryside and climbing hills and mountains while holding up their cables.

Unfortunately the design took home only an honorable mention, which I take it means it won’t be implemented, which is  a shame since these things would look absolutely stunning, especially in the already picturesque Icelandic landscape.

Reykjavik Mayor Opens Gay Pride Festival in Drag

The mayor of Reykjavik has dressed up in drag to mark the opening of the Icelandic capital’s gay pride festival.

Jon Gnarr, a comedian who became mayor in June, appeared on stage on Thursday night in a floral-print dress, blonde wig and bright red lipstick

“This is what we get for voting for a clown in elections”  he said.

If  only all politicians were that honest…
